Easter Baskets and More

I just finished my kid's Easter baskets and our Easter table runner.  Very happy to be finished with these things.  Now I can work on my daughter's Easter dresses and breath.  I don't do well with deadlines.  I would rather just create on my own time, but with holiday stuff that doesn't ever seem to happen.  Here are my baskets and table runner.  I really would like to start making tutorials for some of the stuff I make.  That is on my to-do list for after the holidays!  

I used minkey for the rabbits, button eyes, felt nose, and ric rac whiskers.  I also used a decorative trim around the border.

Tea Towels

I just made 2 tea towels, or are they called hand towels?  Either way they turned out so cute I don't think I want anyone to wipe their dirty or wet hands on them!  They were so fun to embroider and only took minutes to make. These are the best kind of projects when you are trying to clean up your sewing room!  I start the embroidery machine and then while it works I fold fabric and look for a new project.  I love it!

Snow Falling on Flowers.

I just wanted to share a picture of our yard today.  It was a nice Saturday and warm enough to be outside doing yard work.  Spring is in the air with all the flowers popping out of the ground.  Then Monday comes and we have snow!  Snow falling on flowers!?!  Is this why they call it March Madness?  My husband says that saying comes from sports, but I don't believe it.  I think it came from the crazy weather we have this month!

Dr. Seuss Messenger Bag

I try to go to the gym 3 times a week.  I love our gym because it has a great day care and I can read my book while I ride the bike.  So I am getting some needed down time, exercise which is good for my health, and the kids are having fun.  Thursday when I picked them up from the child care center I was told that my baby needed a bag to hold all of his items.  I was trying to get away from diaper bags.  I was just handing them a diaper wipe pouch, sippy cup and snack.  Each time I dropped him off I needed to make sure his name was on everything too.  I understood when they said it would be better if he had a bag.  I don't know how I got away with doing this for a year!  So I went home and made a bag!  I have been wanting to make a messenger bag and thought this small one would be a perfect bag for Jacob's things.  So I can still carry my purse and work out items and have this across my chest keeping my hands free.  I love it.  I even appliquéd his name on it along with the Cat in the Hat.  Now when I drop him off at the child care center at the gym I won't have to worry about having his stuff together and putting his name on it.  I am very happy with this bag.   

I found an old pattern in a magazine and added some pockets to it.   It holds everything I need it to with room to spare.

It is very comfortable to wear.

High School T-Shirt Quilt

I have been working all week on another t-shirt quilt.  The top is finished!

I will post more pictures when it is finished.  Which is hopefully soon!

****UPDATE****


I finished the t-shirt quilt this afternoon.  I spent all weekend and Monday quilting and binding.  I also had to patch a few holes.  I think it turned out great.  T-shirt quilts have a super soft feel to them.  These shirts are very loved shirts.  It was such a fun project too.  I really like making t-shirt quilts because there is no pattern to them.  You just have to figure out how the shirts fit best together like a puzzle.  I love the colors of this one, the borders helped bring it back to life.  When the shirts were given to me they were so faded and full of stains and holes.  Now they have color and personality!

Quilt size is 82" by 65"

Here is what the t-shirt quilt looked like when it was given to me.  She had made this about 15 years ago and it was falling apart.  I definitely think it has a new life to it now.

Sewing Away

I have been busy sewing and creating.  I find it hard to keep that going and putting it on the blog.  I get so excited about my projects I forget to take pictures or write about it as I am working.  So I will post a few pictures that I just took.  Maybe in time I will get better at this.

 VALENTIE'S DAY!

For Valentine's Day I took an old shirt and made it new for my youngest daughter.  I added a skirt, embroidered a cupcake and a little belt with buttons.  Turned out super cute if I do say so myself.

I did fix the buttons once I realized they were not straight. :)

 NEW AND CURRENT PROJECTS

I am working on another t-shirt quilt for my same friend.  These are from her high school days.

 With My Scraps I am making another small quilt.  I love this pattern.  I got the idea from Moda Bake Shop.   It is a fun twist on the 9 patch!  I am still loving these colors!

Donald Duck T-Shirt Quilt

My friend asked me if I knew how to make a t-shirt quilt.  I told her I have made a quilt with my husband's old boxers, but never t-shirts.  I said I would love the challenge though.

I met up with her 1 1/2 weeks ago and she handed me a large bag of old t-shirts.  I was excited to get started, but worried about ruining all of her shirts by cutting them up.  I had a quilting friend tell me that they are like putting together a puzzle because every shirt isn't the exact same size and the print can throw things off too.  I understood what she was talking about once I cut them up.  It was going to be like Tetris, which actually was my favorite video game ever!  And so the fun of putting the t-shirt quilt puzzle together has begun.  I really am having fun with this.  Here is what I have done so far.  To be continued...

Don't mind the mess...And I have noticed I need to vacuum.   But that will have to wait until I finish the more important stuff, sewing!

I think I like this layout.  I also saved some tags of the shirts for fun embellishment.

After putting the sides on I think one more bottom border with these 3 shirts will finish the quilt off perfectly!

Finished!  Took about 10 hours total to make.  It was fun figuring out how to put it all together.
