Star Wars Quilt Continuing...

I went to the quilt store after posting a picture of my border choices for this quilt.  I really didn't like the way it looked and need the right border to finish this quilt.  I went to Joann's first.  I was hoping they had more Star Wars fabric, but they didn't.  So I went to my quilt store and found this amazing black fabric that goes PERFECTLY with the quilt, colors and theme!  I just have to lay it on Brian's bed to see how big the last border needs to be.  I have to wait until he goes to school because this is, I am it is going to be, a surprise. I am loving it!  I am also realizing it may be too big for me to quilt on my machine.  I will probably have to find someone to quilt it for me.

Easy Couch Pillow With Zipper

We finally bought a new couch because our family could no longer fit on our old one.  We had grown from 2 people to 6 in 8 years.  If we wanted to watch a movie together as a family we were sitting on top of each other or someone had to sit on the floor.  So we bought a great sectional that has enough room for us and a couple more!  We love it, but it didn't come with enough pillows.  Each person needs a pillow on family movie night!  So my "to-do list" had *learn to make a couch pillow with a zipper* moved onto it.  I found a great tutorial here, Mommy by day Crafter by night, for a pillow that was the exact size I wanted to make and had fringe on it.   The zipper tutorial I actually used was from Curbly.  I thought their tutorial for putting a hidden zipper in was the best.  I had never done a hidden zipper before and the step by step process was so easy for me to follow here.  The pillow took me 1 1/2 hours to make because I was slow reading each step over and over, but I love my pillow.  Now my husband is begging me to make more.

My Quiet Place

I love to be outside taking care of my garden or just getting a chance to be outside.  It really clears my mind and puts me at rest when I have a few moments outside.  I finally made a little spot for mt to sit at.  I laid down some mulch over a patch of dirt in the shade of some really big trees.  Then I put my little table and 2 chairs we had sitting on our deck there.  Then I found some pots that I already had and bought a couple more and put them around the area to make it feel more connected to the garden.  I love it.  I love sitting there doing my bible studies during the day while the kids nap.  With all of the trees it really is still quite cool in this spot.  I love being able to look up from my writing and see all the beautiful flowers around.  This is my quiet place.  This is my favorite spot in our yard!

I collected this basket of roses from one bush!

Looking forward to raspberries

A Beautiful Letter Art Journal

My Haley is almost 4.  I was thinking about how next year will be my last year at home with her and then off to kindergarten!  I really want to remember these days with her at home.  Today we created this beautiful art journal.  I took a handful of computer paper, folded them in half and then stapled the binding.  Then I played with my scrapbooking paper and fabric and ribbon to create the cover.  I love it!  Her and I are going to write in this together.  I would like this journal to help her learn her letters and help me cherish our days together.

***UPDATE***

We are having fun creating in Haley's Letter Art Journal.
Haley is learning to cut, write, sound out, paint, and decorate letters.

A Special Birthday For Kylie

Today my daughter Kylie turned 6!  I can't believe it has been six years since she was born!  Time can really go fast after you have kids.  I remember the details of her birth so well that I feel like there is no way she could possibly be 6.  She is an amazingly smart, imaginative and creative little girl. She has also been begging me for a sewing machine for years now.  I have always told her that once she can read well and is at least 6 I would get her one.  Well she can read very well now and is 6 so this is the year I get to get her a starter sewing machine.  I think I was as excited as she was about her gift!

I can't wait to see all we can create together and then watch her take off.

Star Wars Quilt

I have been busy the last few days acting as a single mom to 4 kids.  With that said I have not had time to quilt until today.  I have been working on this quilt for Brian off and on for a few months.  Here it is!  I finished putting together 5 star blocks and all of the rows together today!  So happy about how it looks.  I know my 7 almost 8 year old Star Wars fan will love it!  I would love to have it finished with a few pillow cases to match by his birthday in July.  I think I can do it now!  I just need to figure out the borders and buy more for the back.  When it is finished I would like it to be a large twin size so I can quilt it myself.

Here it is...

I think I like this for the borders. The black is felt because I need to go buy solid black. :)

I only bought 2 yards of this so I am hoping Joanns still has some left!  It is going to be the back.

Hungry Caterpillar Baby Quilt

I made a baby quilt for my Sister in Law's 3rd little boy.  She loves to read Eric Carl books to her kids so I thought the Hungry Caterpillar fabric would make the perfect fabric for her new baby's quilt.  I used my embroidery machine to applique his name and embroider his birthday onto it.  It is such a bright fun quilt. Would look great hanging on his wall, but it is also soft enough to lay on.
